Philosophy of the World Language Department
Saint Bernard’s High School
Sharing the language and culture of another country not native to one’s own is truly a life gift. Imparting the knowledge of another country as well as teaching cultural tolerance is taking a step towards global peace. In our ever changing world we are becoming one global village in which we all must live, share and cooperate with one another to accomplish everyday tasks in life. Teaching a world language to our students will help them to prepare for that global world in which they’ll soon enter as an adult. We want to help them face diversity with an open mind, heart and spirit. It is our goal for our students to learn about another ‘world’ by learning about another language and culture and learning to communicate in that other language. In that, they may move towards a better understanding for all that is truly ‘foreign’ to them both here in their homeland and abroad. If they can learn to accept and cooperate within these differences we have truly taught them a lifestyle and attitude that does indeed proclaim Jesus Christ.
