Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Members present: Tim Erickson, Cindy Erickson, Mary Anderson, Susan Buesing, Amy Bearth, Sue Flaherty, Jim Wallerich, Jane Wallerich, Karen Vestal, David Binczik, Mary Tuers, Linda Renstrom, Greg Deacy, Elizabeth Powers, Karen Ueland
Guests Present: Michelle Ponsolle
- Introductions: Tim Erickson began introducing himself as the new chairperson for the Lock-in Committee.
- Michelle Ponsolle: Michelle reviewed what some of the other groups within the school and parish such as FFA, Fine Arts, etc. are doing for fundraisers so that we will not duplicate fundraisers. We in turn reviewed our ideas with Michelle. As long as we are not asking for money specifically (selling $25.00 card for Keys for $25.00) Michelle will be checking to see if we can work at Excel and assign our money earned to the Lock-in. Some fundraisers that are currently on the calendar are: October-Brick Sale, Feb.-Bulldog Benefit.
We will use the Senior Advisors to communicate with our Seniors. We decided as a group that our goal is to be throwing this party for the seniors. We will enlist their help with fundraising when it fits, but the goal in the end is for the parents to be providing for them.
- We began to review our ideas for fundraiser. We are looking to sponsor events where we will earn the most amount of money for our time.
v We will be doing a Haunted House Saturday October 26 & 27. Tim will be chairing this event. We will ask the Seniors to help us with set up, clean up, and working the “House”.
v We will be doing Butterbraid Bread sales. Karen will be chairing this fundraiser. She will firm up dates and be the liaison between the school and the company. We will do one fall sale and one spring sale.
v Kate is a Home & Garden salesperson and will set up a booth on Conference night. If this is successful we will explore her setting up at other events.
v Amy is willing to chair a Spring Fashion Show. This will be held 3/2/08.
v Michelle will be checking to see if people are able to do on-line giving and designate their donation to the Senior Lock-in.
v Sue F. will be checking to see if we can get in on Community Days (Nov. 10) for Herbergers in Midway.
- Cub Recap: We did not have enough students to staff. The manager stated that he would re-file our request and let us know when our name comes up again.
- Back to School Night: Very few people stopped by our area at the back to school night. Many Seniors came without parents.
At this time, it was 7:30 p.m. and we were to adjourn. Amy suggested that perhaps one hour is not enough time for meetings, especially in the beginning stages. Amy noted that the meeting was “ending” without any discussion of the actual night and what we may need to be working on. Tim suggested that anyone who needed to leave should but that we would continue to meet tonight.
This further discussion followed:
Meetings will be held the second Wednesday of the Month at 6:30 p.m.
The Treasurer of our Committee is Mary Anderson and Amy Bearth will serve as the Secretary. Tim inquired about a draft budget and what has already been planned. Mary will let Tim know about the budget. Mary explained that there is usually some beginning budget left over from the year before.
We informed Tim that the Community Center was booked and Mary would be sending the down payment in. Amy voiced her concern regarding the cost for the rental of the Community Center. Discussion followed that we have been told that once we give up this date we would not be able to get it back. It was suggested that we could ask the students their opinion. For now, the event remains at the Community Center.
We also have a down payment on the hypnotist ($100). Again discussion followed as to whether this was something that the students enjoy or if we were doing it just because they did it last year. Parents with previous seniors said that the kids, for the most part, really enjoy it. We will keep the hypnotist.
The caricature artist is also booked.
Conversation opened up as to keeping the things that have worked in the past i.e.; boxer BINGO, haircuts. We will look to incorporate the old ideas into our theme. The consensus of the group is that we would go with a “passport” idea and have the students make their way to each area to receive a stamp. New ideas are hiring someone to come teach salsa dancing or some other ethnic dancing, German games. We will continue to brainstorm new ideas and further discuss the schedule of the evening.
We also came to the consensus that we would go with gift cards vs. big gifts. The gift cards would be $50. We will figure out a fun way to disperse them just as they did with the big gifts.
Discussion was held regarding going with something travel themed, like a duffel, instead of a cooler for the send home gift that each of the students take home. The group agreed. We will discuss further.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be held October 10, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room.
