Sophomore Religion
During their sophomore year at Saint Bernard’s, students’ religion course focuses on Scripture. The first portion of the year goes in depth on the stories, characters, issues and messages of the Old Testament. Students will learn the parts of the bible and its origins as well. After that, we will look at how the New Testament fulfills the Old Testament and we will learn about the geography, language, politics and environment of Jesus life. We will look in depth at the gospels' themes, styles, writers and teachings. It is hoped that by understanding these readings, a deeper relationship with Jesus is formed and nurtured.
In addition to studying scripture, sophomores will also take a look at bits and pieces of Judaism and their holidays as our Christian roots stem from them. During the course of the year, we will also look at the litugical year and how it is founded in scripture, particular days which focus on a saint, and Catholic feast or solemnities will also be addressed.
