Since 1891, for 116 year, Saint Bernard’s has been a gathering place for thousands of area children and residents and a venue for community events of all kinds. It has also been an active leader in the North End, continuously seeking ways to improve our community and make it a better place to live. To make the needed changes, we’ve launched the “Saint Bernard’s Community Handicap Accessibility Improvement Project,” spearheaded with the vision and direction of David Cossetta.
The City of Saint Paul recognizes the vital role Saint Bernard’s plays in the community and has been as committed to the project as we are. The City awarded us a $200,000 matching Star Grant as well as an $180,000 URAP Grant. To meet the match of the $200,000 grant, we received a very generous donation of $100,000 from John Nasseff and Helen Houle and have also been blessed with many other wonderful donors who have partnered with us on this project. Recently, we also have been notified that we will be receiving a $50,000 grant from the F. R. Bigelow Foundation.
Our groundbreaking ceremony was held in June and the ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, November 1, 2007, in combination with a celebration to honor our grandparents.
You can be part of Saint Bernard’s history and help us reach our financial goals for this project. Please consider buying a brick that can be inscribed with your name and a message of your choice. Funds raised from the bricks will go toward renovation costs. Your brick will have a permanent place in front of the main doors of the new atrium. You’ll be getting far more than a brick—you’ll be paving the way to a stronger community!
To buy your brick online go to www.saintbernards-school.org or call Michelle Ponsolle at 651-489-1338 x166.
