Religion Department Philosophy
Religion is the core of developing young Roman Catholic men and women at Saint Bernard's School. This Christ-centered education provides the framework within which the students follow the Benedictine tradition to become "saints, scholars, ladies and gentlemen." The message and ministry of Jesus Christ is incorporated into curriculum, school climate, and the social and spiritual development of the students. Religion is not only a subject, but the center of the total Catholic education at Saint Bernard's school.
The religion program provides the means for a student to understand and broaden their Catholic faith in preparing for their present and future lives. This program reflects the four dimensions of doctrine, community of faith, worship and service as stated in the National Catechetical Directory to form the "Catholic school's apostolic goals and character." This is accomplished through the study and practical application of Sacred Scripture, the sacraments, prayer, church history, social justice issues, lifestyle preparation, and Christian service. |
