The PYP at Saint Bernard’s

The PYP is a world-renowned curricular framework designed to encourage students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens.  The Primary Years Programme (PYP) targets learners in grades K-5, giving them a global perspective and aims to create a relevant, engaging, challenging, and significant educational environment for all children.

Why the PYP at Saint Bernard’s?  The goals of the PYP are no different from the goals of our school’s mission statement.  As we strive to "educate, awaken, and nourish" our students to lives of service and leadership so too does the mission of the IBO.  The end resuls remain the same; we want our students to graduate knowing how to be a citizen in today's world.  The framework is based on an understanding of how children learn and how the brain works.  It allows for flexibility in our choice of content as we work to achieve our school’s standards and it connects our school to a wider school and community network.  Like the curriculum at Saint Bernard’s, the PYP consists of the written curriculum, the taught curriculum, and the assessed curriculum.
