PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) Meeting Minutes – October 3, 2007
Attending: Jennifer Cassidy, Kathy Weyandt Jackson, Andrea Shelton, Pat Birkey
Discussion: KJ explained what the PAC is, its purpose and that it is always evolving and currently in a rebirth stage. JC provided a history of the evolution of the PAC . The purpose is to foster greater communication between the school and parents and to assist the school with tasks, projects, i.e., as they arise. Also the school wishes to use the PAC to bounce ideas off of regarding certain aspects of the school. The school is often looking for the parent perspective.
Discussion: All agreed that the first main goal is to increase membership and participation. Ideas discussed include: personal invitations to freshmen parents via the freshmen family mass on Oct. 7th and calling home to those freshmen parents who do not attend the mass. Andrea and Pat volunteered to make these calls. Also, candy bar, “PAC is BACK” marketing push at conferences. Pat Birkey will host a table at conferences and hand out some sort of candy/invitation to parents encouraging them to attend the November 7th meeting. Also changing the meeting time might encourage participation. Also, put meeting dates on sports programs and invite parents via the sports registration nights. Will also invite parents via the Oct. 28th Father/Son Banquet.
Discussion: Andrea mentioned some examples of student behavior and school culture that she felt was displeasing. Jennifer asked her to encourage parents to call Kathy with specific concerns immediately after something is observed. That way the school can often use the situation as an educational opportunity within convocation to deal with various, isolated situations. It is difficult for the school to address specific situations if they are not aware of it and if too much time has elapsed since the situation occurred.
Next Meeting:Wednesday, November 7th @ 5:30 PM in the high school conference room. All are welcome. Please bring a friend – two friends!! THE PAC IS BACK! |
