A beginner’s course in technical drawing, this class would serve as a good introduction for future draftspersons, engineers, architects, designers and technical college candidates. The basics of drafting are covered, as well as free hand sketching. Some of the procedures discussed include the drawing of floor plans, elevations, perspective drawings and mechanical layout.

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 1 Trimester

AUTO FOR ALL

A course in which the student learns the fundamental theories of auto systems, maintenance, and trouble shooting through a combination of lectures and hands-on experience. It is designed to equip each student with the skills and knowledge to avoid being victims of consumer fraud. Practical skills, such as changing lights, oil, tires, etc., will also be learned.

HOME MAINTENANCE

This class will take a close look at the basic care and maintenance of the family home, perhaps the largest investment of most Americans. It will include lectures, discussions and practical experience in understanding and “trouble-shooting” such areas as: basic construction, wiring, plumbing, along with many other of the mechanical systems and appliances found within the average home. It’s an excellent course for those interested in buying and maintaining their own home.

WOODS I

This is a course in basic woodworking. It covers such topics as wood properties, types of woods, building and fastening techniques, etc. An important aspect of the course will be the proper care and safe use of power woodworking tools.

Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 1 Trimester

WOODS II

This course builds on the skills obtained in Woods I. In it, the student will advance in his/her use of wood joinery techniques, as used in custom furniture building. Students will make individual choices as to the main project(s) they design and construct.

Prerequisite: Woods I or instructor’s approval.

WOODS III

An advanced woodworking course for a limited number of students who are interested and have the skills to create, build and assemble specialty objects and furniture. Partial focus will be on production of items for sale.

Prerequisite: Woods II and instructor approval.

INDUSTRIAL WELDING

This 2 credit course is open only to seniors and is taught through St. Paul Technical College. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Technical College each day. Some equipment will have to be purchased.

Grade 12 1 Trimester

ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL ARTS

This is an independent study, designed for the student who has completed an industrial arts course, has maintained at least a B average in the course and has a strong motivation to continue his/her study of the subject. Objectives of this independent study will be determined and agreed upon by the instructor and the student, at the beginning of the trimester. The course work will be challenging, and the student’s grade will be determined by the fulfillment of the outlined objectives.
