WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE Mrs. Hanson Grade 2 Room 106
Happy Spring from Second Grade!
We had many exciting events in second grade this year including Reconciliation, a number of field trips and of course our most exciting experience: First Holy Communion. I was so proud of all of our students on this day. Everyone looked beautiful and you could tell they all felt so special, as they should! I am also very proud of those who could not join us for First Holy Communion as they learned and practiced so hard with the rest of the class, they too, were just as prepared and I know they are all proud and happy for their classmates. Way to go second grade team!
We finished the year out with a unit on stories. It was titled, Tell Me a Tale. In this unit students learned all about different types of stories. Where they come from, why we tell stories and the importance of continuing to tell stories. The summative assessment for this unit gave the students a chance to write and illustrate their very own story. They choose to write a Fairy Tale, Folk Tale, Tall Tale or a Legend. I was very proud to see what they can produce! Students also had a chance to share their stories with classmates.
Check out the link to “Weekly Newsletter” for second grade to see an example of some of the things we cover in a week’s time.
Please continue to practice flash cards, read lots of books and always be wearing your “learning hat” all summer long. There are many opportunities to learn besides just in school!
I would like to wish all of you a fun-filled summer full of outdoor activities, rain or shine! Hey, all of us deserve a “Singing in the Rain” day right? Go splash in some puddles…..lay on the warm grass under the sunshine…..but above all, play with your kids! There is nothing more precious than watching a parent run around and playing tag or some other active game with their child. Enjoy your time together, see you in the fall!
