“Special Education and Gifted and Talented Services”

Grades Pre-K through 12

Saint Bernard’s School does provide a certain degree of assistance for students with special needs and diverse learning styles. While all students are welcome, we do have limited resources. All of our teachers are well trained in areas of identification, referral and interventions for students with special needs. We are a Title I School and provide on-site Title I services for those students who meet federal guidelines for eligibility. Saint Bernard’s is currently building our Gifted and Talented program for those students who show exceptional aptitude and abilities. We have a Learning Specialist on staff to provide teacher training and classroom support. Our Learning Specialist also provides comprehensive resources and support for our teachers, parents and students around the following topics:

  • Identification of Learning Needs
  • Processing Referrals
  • Establishing Eligibility
  • Classroom Intervention Strategies
  • Student Intervention Strategies
  • ‘Response To Intervention’ Programs
  • Creating and/or monitoring Individual Education Plans
  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of 504 Plans
  • Advocacy for Diverse Learners and their Parents
  • Differentiating Instruction: Meeting the needs of Gifted and Talented students
  • Creating Working Partnerships between Saint Bernard’s teachers, parents, and the Saint Paul Public Schools
  • Classroom, Curriculum, and Testing Modifications
  • Classroom, Instructional, and Testing Adaptations
  • Communication
